Scope of Works
Construction of 24km water transmission pipeline from Kiambu to Embakasi. Construction of a reinforced concrete water storage tank at Embakasi with a capacity of 14,000 cubic meters. Construction of the Resident Engineer’s Office at Embakasi.
Impacts
1. Meet water requirements of South – Eastern Nairobi by year 2035 2. Transmit 123,206m3/d of water to serve a target population of 886,501 in the region.
Key Challenges
1. Delay in Wayleave Acqusion and Handing over of some Sites to Contractor 2. Delay in Mobilization and Procurement of Steel Pipes and fittings by Contractor 3. Cash flow constraints due to delays in disbursement of certified payments 4. Delayed relocation of electrical power lines along part of the pipeline route 5. Working within limited Wayleave in highly congested and densely populated areas.
Remarks
1. NCWSC should regulary patrol and inspect the pipeline to avoid installation of illegal connections. 2. In future projects, acquisition of Wayleaves, and Relocation of services agreements to be finalized before commencement of works. 3. NCWSC to adopt and adhere to a maintenance and operational schedule.
