Scope of Works• The Project will be undertaken within the aquifers serving the Eldoret Town • Identification of suitable infiltration sites for Managed Aquifer Recharge and estimation of infiltration capacities. • Identification and Quantification of suitable water sources for MAR Schemes in these Cities • Selection of suitable locations for diversion structures and water conveyance mechanisms in the area of study • Restoration of groundwater level and establishment of a long-term groundwater reservoir for human and ecosystem needs • Institutional Capacity Development for MAR Assessment at RCGW • Communication and outreach (Production of publicity materials and dissemination of information to the public)
Impacts• Increase Groundwater Storage and ensuring sustainable water supply systems for the three towns. • Address the effects of floods by managing storm and wastewater flow, thereby contributing to improved water management in the three towns and bolstering environmental sustainability. • Implement measures to improve the quality of groundwater in the three towns by diluting fluoride and salinity levels, ensuring water quality adheres to the WHO and KEBS standards for both human consumption and ecological equilibrium. • Develop and apply MAR guidelines for the Country Kenya • Advancing Knowledge by integrating our research and indigenous knowledge and promote knowledge sharing. • Preventing Land Subsidence by maintaining the required equilibrium in groundwater recharge and abstraction.
